CARE INSTRUCTIONS
PAINTING INSTRUCTIONS
25 Year Guarantee on LOSP Treated Pine Products
Initial Painting Requirements
- Apply 2 thin coats of oil-based primer to all six sides of the product before installation.
- Products must be kept dry prior to painting.
- Allow adequate drying time between coats.
- Do not paint until at least 72 hours after delivery, allowing the timber to acclimatise.
Why Oil-Based Primer?
LOSP (Light Organic Solvent Preservative) treatments require an oil-based primer because it contains solvents that bond properly with the treatment, allowing paint to be absorbed into the timber's cell structure.
Once primed correctly, the product becomes highly water-resistant.
Topcoating
- After priming, you may use Acrylic, Water-Based, or Oil-Based paints for the topcoat.
- Apply 2 to 3 thin coats of your chosen finish paint.
Ongoing Maintenance
To maintain the appearance and integrity of your timber products, annual inspections and touch-ups are required:
- Check for signs of wear, cracks, or paint breakdown.
- Lightly sand and recoat any areas where paint has deteriorated.
- Keep surfaces sealed and protected to prevent moisture ingress and prolong product life.
Failure to maintain the coating over time can lead to natural weathering effects such as cracking, fading, or timber movement - which are not covered under the structural or rot/decay warranty.
Disclaimer
Timber is a natural product - as per the Victorian Building Authority (VBA) and Australian Standards, small cracks, shrinkage, or movement in timber exposed to weather are normal and expected.
